11 Mar It’s “Time for a Relationship” with Me…
“The most exciting, challenging and significant relationship of all is the one
you have with yourself, and if you find someone to love the you, you love,
well that’s just FABULOUS”!
I believe Carrie Bradshaw has opened up an entire new way for women to explore and even re-evaluate their relationships. Truly words to live by!
The scariest and even most unsettling relationship that one can ever have is the one we have with ourselves, because it requires us to look deep inside of ourselves and ask whether or not we like who we have become. After, fifty-three years and counting, I have finally come to a point in my life where I can honestly say, “I love me,” and, “It’s time for a relationship with FABULOUS me.” To be quite honest; I don’t remember the last time when I wasn’t in a relationship with someone else. I have asked myself over and over again why “ME” was never enough or never even an option?
As a little girl I always thought that one-day I would grow up and find someone that would become my “Dream Maker,” if you will. As I reflect on this last statement I have to stop and ask myself, “Why?” Why, do I feel that someone else has to be the one to fulfill my dreams? I have also asked myself, “and at what cost?”
As Women, we have allowed ourselves to believe that if we don’t have a man standing next to us, then we aren’t complete. Why or when did we allow ourselves to believe that a man defines a woman? Don’t get me wrong. They make great partners, however; when did we become those women that needed them to validate, define or even make us feel that, without them, we can’t be happy? I have found that my best relationship is the one I have with myself. I have learned so much from myself. I have come to realize just how amazing I truly am! Now don’t get me wrong, this isn’t about the me, myself and I factor. It’s really the WOW, “I am woman” factor, and, as a woman I have a lot of great, amazing, fabulous, wonderful, inspiring, and delightful stuff to share…
For so many years we have worked against ourselves and against other women. When did we decide, if you will, that this was acceptable behavior? From the beginning of time we were designed to be set apart from the norm. You see ladies, God first created man, but then he got a better idea! We were and are His hot diggity… yet, so many times, when we look around at our girlfriends, co-workers, and colleagues, we hardly ever see BOLD CONFIDENT WOMEN. Unfortunately for us, that stems from our inability to build up other women in the work place, or at school, or within our personal network. You might ask, “Why do we do this to one another?” Why, do we allow ourselves to tear down BOLD CONFIDENT WOMEN? I believe it’s because we are so insecure about who we are… our relationship with ourselves is BROKEN. We haven’t given ourselves a chance to become the great, amazing, fabulous, wonderful, inspiring, and delightful women we were created to be. We are always so concerned that people will not like us and or accept us for who we are. We have allowed judgments and criticisms from other relationships to define us. We have allowed ourselves to believe that, without those relationships, we can’t survive.
Ordinary people are liked by few, however extraordinary people are liked by all, because the “extraordinary within us,” allows us to show others just how amazing we are, and that the only validation we need is our own because that is the only one that counts…
It is time for a relationship with FABULOUS you! It’s time for you to SHINE. It’s time for you to learn how to LOVE you. Now, go and fall in LOVE with the FABULOUS YOU, YOU WERE CREATED TO BE! Please share this Gospel with as many women as you know, because it’s time for BOLD, CONFIDENT WOMEN TO SHINE…..
